My Favourite FW 06 Collection: Balenciaga

In my free time, I sit down and analyse the Fall/Winter 2006 Collections of each designer. I haven’t gotten through all of them yet, but it is quite safe to declare that by far, Balenciaga’s my favourite fall collection. Its easy to see why:

Nicolas Ghesquiere revisited Cristobal Balenciaga’s couture shapes, primarily in the form of bubble skirts. By highlighting skirts that stand out in 3D bubbles, the Ghesquiere-helmed label received recognition it never had in the recent years. He paired Balenciaga’s signature bubble skirts with structured helmets, black leggings, and boots that lifted the model to dizzy heights.

This rose-coloured skirt had its pattern hand-painted on, and the outfit left me in awe for a good few seconds. In my opinion, its got to be the stand-out outfit of this Fall.

While I did not feel attracted to this outfit because of its sombre colours, I subconsciously stopped and admired how fantastically structured it was. The sleeves, front of the dress, and the ruffling details looked so much in place that it seems, if the guy in the picture tried his best to ruffle it up, it wouldn’t bulge - which sealed my faith in Nicolas Ghesquiere’s prowess.

I had to double check to see if the collection was indeed, Ready To Wear, because I am not at all “ready to wear” these outfits - instead, I feel compelled to worship them.
