How Bikes can be an Accessory Too!

In conjunction with the Live Earth weekend, and Earth Day, I decided to be more conscientious in being green - simple things like not having takeaway during lunch hours to lessen use of styrofoam, and avoiding the usage of straws. It is simple choices like this which, over a period of time, will make our planet a better place to live in!

Fashion can also be green. In Europe, I noticed that everyone looked extremely stylish on their bicycles. Dottie can attest to how I would gasp at the French (Paris being the first city of my Europe trip), pointing out how the person looked ridiculously good even if he was wearing a tracksuit with flipflops cycling around his neighbourhood.

Of course, if he was Parisian, chances are he would look stylish in nothing but boxers, but what can I say? I’m extremely biased.

A quick look at the Sartorialist’s “Bicycles” tab and you can find all these gems of stylish people who are being really Earth-friendly at the same time!

The above picture reminds me of all the stylish Italian men I’ve seen in the 3 cities I have been to. Smoking and biking, shades with a suit, and brown shoes worn sockless goes so well that I would totally swoon if he’d cycle past me.

Yet another! You know, these European gentlemen may not be young, but they certainly know exactly how to dress.

While the *ahem* older gentlemen in Singapore can be considered to be at their best dressed if they are wearing Crocodile polo teeshirts and having a leather belt on, these Europeans cycle past you in suits that are wrinkled just right, with matching leather shoes to boot, with a twinkle in their eyes that can simply do no wrong.

I think I’d still be able to smile at them if they flattened my toes with their bicycle wheels.

Also, bikes can be an accessory in all seasons. You can cycle with a summer’s dress and shorts with a cute hat while it’s still warm…

and still bike when you’re bundled up and in the cold, like the lady featured above.

I am starting to realise why these biking pictures look so good. They are all taken on cobblestoned streets! Tweeds told me to tred on cobblestoned streets while I can because we’d never have them in Singapore, but now it seems cycling on them would be a far better experience. Except I’m really clumsy on bikes and I have an irrational fear of falling.
