I’ve been doing major shopping the last week after my beach getaway trip with the Boyfriend, mostly replenishing on basics and putting my Fall wardrobe together.
One of the items top of my list is the Keffiyeh Scarf. My desire stems from Dottie’s longing for a gypsy inspired ethnic, floral scarf. The keffiyeh scarf, or kafiyah scarf, orginates from the Arab countries, and first became a fashion statement when those sympathetic with the Here are some celebs donning the scarves:

What I really like about the scarf is the way it lends a comfortable look to most outfits. I just wonder how I am going to work it into my work outfits, because come tomorrow I am going back to being a corporate rat again! The Horror!
Combing through Haji Lane yesterday after popping by the vintage event I blogged about a few days ago, I found several in red, black, green with white combinations respectively at a couple of shops there. However, they were either too expensive (SGD49.90) or too large for my liking.

Finally, I found some at Noritur, a really cozy shop with a sweet shop assistant. Located at Queensway Shopping Centre, #02-39F, which is somewhere near the McDonalds outlet there. With the scarves going for SGD29.90, it wasn’t too steep for my budget.
Korean inspired fashionistas should head there, as the shop assistant let me in on the fact that their stock is brought in by their fashion forward Korean owner. I really like their stuff, so I’ll be working my weekend schedule to pop by there soon again.

YAY!
fashion trends are becoming more and more interesting nowadays, there is always something to love, The keffiyeh or shemagh is definitely one to love, its just got more character than your typical plain, striped scarves, i’m so glad its in fashion and very popular all round the world with the biggsest fashion houses such as balenciaga (which actually initiated the comeback of this trend)plus H&M marketing the trend and making it popular as well as big celebrities such as DAVIDBECKHAM,SIENNAMILLER,STING,
“JLO’S man” MARC ANTHONY,Diane Kruger,CHRIS BROWN & MARY KATE OLSEN(purlpe keffiyeh) and COLIN FARRELL wearing keffiyeh at sundance for his movie (In Bruges)
its a great symbol of Arab heritage and history and its great that its out there for the whole world to wear, love and enjoy!!!!!!!!!1
it would be Awesome to see more and more Arabic flavour added & mixed into mainstream fashion!!!!!!!!!!

Isn’t it funny how all of a sudden the keffiyeh “scarf” is now in fashion. I remember when my father used to wear them and people used to stare at him, and they would start laughing for no reason. Now, those are probably the ones wearing the keffiyeh.

There is nothing wrong with wearing a scarf just other people want to cause problems with them,
if they just stay out of other people’s business they would not know what kind of scarf it is, just that it is pretty and you like it. So what is the problem,!!!!!!

If you do buy a Keffiyeh, be aware if its implications…certian colors mean affiliations with different groups and stay clear of green it just clashes with everything.
Plus, you’d deal with the famous look of horror by certian individuals.

ITS A SYMBOL OF UNITY NOT TERRORISM

A terrorist symbol really? It is the complete opposite.

Addressed to those other comments:
1. It is not a stupid trend, when they are symbols of different Arab nationalities.
2. They do not symbolize terrorism for the reason given above–e.i.,black and white with large sections Palestinian, black and smaller white Jordanian, red and white may be Iraqi while Saudis don it as well etc.
3. Green doesn’t clash if you know how to match things haha.
4. Steering clear of the flamboyant neon combos are best, in that if someone knows how to spot a real from fake, they’ll probably find it…well fake, and may label the person donning it as ignorant.
