Recently, Stephie and I have been paying special attention to how we can dress up our heads – which in Singapore, will have to one of the most neglected areas in fashion.
Even if Singaporeans do wear something on their heads, it will be something harmless and sweet, like an Alice band; or something functional, like a clip or cap to keep our hair up during times of extreme humidity.
We feel that ther’s much to be explored, fashion-wise, up north
And headwear may just be the distinguishing factor between the truly fashion-forward and the meek trend follower.
I figure it will be wise to start with a true master. Philip Treacy, cult milliner and muse of the late Isabella Blow, makes such love head pieces that you may just fork out the thousands of pounds they cost.

Of course, no matter how lovely the head pieces are (they will look so good for special occasions like a wedding or black tie ball), they are not really for every day wear. His simpler, more basic pieces, like the sculpted orange beret in the first picture, are perfect for spicing up day outfits which do not require too much drama
For those who prefer the understated and subtle style as compared to over-the-top glamour puss, cocktail hats may be more appealing.

I really like this Art Deco inspired little cocktail hats by Patrick Bay Millinery. Some can be worn comfortably in the day (as they are not much more than very pretty and intricate hair accessories), while others are made for champagne-sipping.
Seeing that I will be in the sun a lot this coming month, what I really need now is a pretty but practical sun hat.

A wide-brimmed sun hat like this one will be just right. This weekend, I shall be hunting for things to put on my head. Also, Stephie and I are plotting a little DIY headpiece project. If it’s successful, we’ll divulge the whole process here! So watch this space.

ooooh… down at spotlight in plaza sing, they have the components of the cocktail hat (including the little oval piece with the hair comb attached, and lots of feathers and accessories for diy-ing exactly what you need). they’re incredibly vintagey and not too expensive.

Love the website, lots of style ideas here. Incidentally, The Vintage Society also ran a post on hats a few days ago. The verdict – Don’t be afraid! The moment you walk out the door you will get some looks – except all they will be thinking is , “I wish I were a ‘hat-girl’ like her!”
