I love colours, and I like them strong and rich
Pastels strike me as rather half-hearted, and perhaps my skin tone just doesn’t go that well with lighter shades.
But with colours, I feel one has to be very careful not to overdo it. When in doubt, I always go by the rule of ‘less is more’, than to risk looking like a particularly garish traffic light

For Looks that Caught the Eye this time around, it is how this girl (on the left) has walked the tight rope of using colours, balancing boldness with tact.
As usual, there are a number of things I really like about this outfit:
1) I love the look-at-me, unapologetic red leggings. Black and opaque ones can only take us so far – and coincidentally, I’m currently puzzling over how to get away with wearing coloured leggings to work (of course, not red; But perhaps deep purple). As of now, it seems like mine is a forgone cause
2) I’d been dreaming of the perfect over-sized white shirt for the longest time. The way she is wearing the over-sized white shirt (father’s? brother’s? boyfriend’s?) cannot be more throw-it-on (no belt; not even a sash), which I think takes a lot of confidence to carry off. Personally, I think I’ll look shapeless + like I’m drowning in this ensemble.
3) The scarf is one of the best parts. I like them bundled up around the face like this (though I’ll never get to do that here), and the colours are so right somehow. The preppy print (I like preppy) goes really well with the dark navy (I also like navy). Plus, the blue, red and white of the scarf matches the rest of her outfit almost exactly. Colour coordination: cute or fashion sin? Your take
4) The washed denim shirt looks kind of ’80s. A good kind of ’80s.
5) Ooo! And the green hair bubbles! Sorry if this offends your all-grown-up sensibilities, but I love hair bubbles (I have 3 from H&M in green, purple and pink).
Okay, so let us count the colours: grand total of SEVEN!

Colour is very close to my heart and I am almost defensively unapologetic about wearing a spectrum of colours at the same time. A few years ago, I used to limit my outfit to only 3 colours but I have learnt to take myself less seriously. Now, I throw on as many colours as I would like. Garish, tacky and kitsch? Perhaps. But for some inexplicable reason, colour-mixing resonates very deeply with who I am as a person and every colour that I wear represents a facet of my personality or even something as reductionist as the thought I had just before I pulled open my wardrobe doors.

I am still trying hard to inject some more colours into my wardrobe – even I am bored of the black, white and nuetrals! No matter how hard I try, I still feel the need to match some colours in my outfit.. guess I’m a really safe dresser.
Speaking of leggings, why not? I’ve worn dark green/navy leggings over a dress to the office, now that u mention deep purple….
