Christmas Gift Ideas (Part One)

We at Fashion Nation love that it is the Christmas season once again. The lights go up on Orchard Road, making shopping a gleeful experience when you’re shuttling from one shopping centre to another. Everyone flocks to town so you can put on your best frock and frolick around while you say hi to acquaintances left and right. But best of all, it means you get presents! (: What a nice way to end the year.

If you have been thinking of what to get for your fashionable friend and feeling apprehensive that perhaps whatever you buy may be snobbed at, then we present to you the atas gift list guaranteed to make even the snobbiest fashionista rub his or her hands in delight at your present! Do note that when it comes to fragrances it is best to let it settle on your wrist for an hour or so to truly see if you like the smell, as it tends to react with your body and may not smell the same straight off the bottle.

The Diptyque candle range has been a top favourite of all magazine editors. Which says something, since they do face luxury items every single day at work. The Tuberose scent is a hot favourite, but do pop down to Tangs Level One to check them out. They should be at the Escentials booth. These do not come cheap, going for SGD70-80 the last time I checked - the prices may have upped a lot more than that.

While fragrances may be up to the individual, getting Annick Goutal vouchers should not settle too badly with a fashionista. The Annick Goutal fragrances look amazingly delish and tempting! The Petite Chérie seems to be very favoured amongst the Annick Goutal crowd, and does smell entirely different from other fragrances.

A true fashionista will be ecstatic with something as precious as this, as compared to the Britney and Jennifer Lopez wannabe scents currently on the counters. Again, this can be found at the very fabulous Tangs Beauty Hall in Orchard.

I have not tried this yet, and really shouldn’t be recommending this, but the Guerlain L’Heure Bleue’s packaging look too enticing to be true! Favoured by Lou Doillon herself, I will be rushing down to the Guerlain counter to test this one out.

Another product I believe in is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. It has been a beauty staple of celebrities and other regular folks like us, and can be used almost anywhere on your body - face, lips, elbows, and other skin irritation areas. Well received by people with eczema, it is especially handy for people who have flaky or dry skin. Be warned that the scent isn’t very forgiving, but quite alright for such a miraculous product.

Okay, this one is my own personal Holy Grail of hand cream. The Jurlique Rose Hand Cream smells heavenly, and is at a whopper price of SGD76 (i think) for a tooth-paste sized tube. It smells crazy-great, and is perfectly mild yet supremely moisturising.

I first read about it on Urban’s Bag Page, and decided to splurge on it on a trip to Hong Kong a year ago because at that time we were not able to get this in Singapore. Who knew, the beauty counters were here by the time I was back. Bah! But under such unlucky circumstances I am still very happy with it. A tube of this can last ages even with daily application, so do splurge and buy this for office or daily usage!

//edit// Dottie reminded me that the Jurlique Hand Cream is much cheaper if you get it from Australia as the brand originates from there. So if you have ways to procure from there, do so instead of getting them here!

  • I LOVE JURLIQUE! It works wonders. I get horribly dry skin in cold climates, so when I was wailing about my flaky skin to Stephie in Europe, she lent me her Jurlique hand cream, and the result is instantaneous :) Although its an hand cream, I used it on my arms and legs as well, and it works just as fine. Apparantly, it is cheaper in Aussieland, so buy in the bulk the next time you’re there! :)

  • Diptique candles have been discontinued.
And other than Essentials, you may want to pop by One Beauty Place next to Tang & Co (a spa, which does facial & massage services for Jurlique, Decleor, Carita, Phytomer etc) which also sells Jurlique, Annick Goutal, Serge Lutens etc (because they get the items from the same supplier/company)

  • Great mention, thanks Vnsa! (:

  • Ah, I live in Sydney now, so if you need anything Aussie, I’m happy to buy on your behalf and mail it to you. Email me :)

  • Eileen! That’s such a kind gesture from you, we’ll be sure to keep that in mind. Heartfelt thanks from the Fashion Nation crew (:

  • Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I’m bookmarking this for future reference. Some of these I already do, so the point resonated most strongly with me. Keep feeding the creativity.
I am currently on holiday so, for this reason, I’ve nothing better to do than surf the web for shopping, lie around and update my blog. Well, more or less anyway.
