Spring 2008 Couture: Christian Dior
The couture shows have rolled off to a start, and the Christian Dior Couture show has always been a highlight. This year, there is no reason for an exception.
The key focus of John Galliano’s collection this year is colour, volume and shine.

I think the best way to describe the dresses will be ’sculpted, blow-up’. I love how the metres after metres of satin is molded into such impossible shapes and sizes, and yet retains its sense of fluidity.
The colours are the gorgeous jewel tones that I love, perfect eye candy for a dreary day. I particularly heart the fuschia dress (second photo) with the turquoise and orange scale sequins.
While the dresses themselves are set to be the centre of attention, it is the accessories which caught my eyes.
The shoes are much more than footwear - they’re almost architectural works of art!

Although I love flipping through photos of the coutour shows, my only grouch is that I can’t imagine wearing them. So, what is truly spectacular about this collection is not the dazzling brilliance of the colours or genius of construction, but how so many of the pieces can actually be worn.
I do love beauty for beauty’s sake, but beauty and function really need not be mutually exclusive
In fact, functional beauty is a definite plus!
Xoxo,
Dottie

My favorite aspect of this collection are the shoes. I doubt their practical for everyday life, but they’re still amazing nonetheless.
