F/W08: Proenza Schouler - The Wonder Duo
To be absolutely frank, I was beginning to feel that this season’s New York Fashion Week is a little *gasps* dull. In fact, I was actually feeling rather grouchy with all the black and grey. I know it is Fall, but adding in colours or prints (traditionally of the S/S domain) may be an unexpected but brilliant choice.
Then the Proenza Schouler collection came along and swept me completely off my feet. I’m totally smitten. Call me a groupie, but from now on, I’m going to buy into all that ‘hype’ surrounding the McCollough + Hernandez Wonder Duo.
Firstly, there is the colours. It is no secret that I love, love, love jewel tones, and this collection is filled with them! Gold, rich purple, deep green, strong navy. But what is truly fabulous are how these colours are worn together. Purple with mustard, navy with wine and green, and fuschia pumps with almost all of the above. They are colours you’d never thought of wearing in the same outfit, but now that you’d seen it done, it can’t look more right!
The silk twill mini-dresses that started off the show are almost exactly what I want. Everything is perfect - from the bows to the ruffles-like details (layers of material ‘doubling and re-doubling’ back on themselves).

The puff-ball/bell sleeves details on some of the jackets and dresses also adds a quirky and endearing touch.

And the strangest thing? While I’d always been not much of a pants girl, I find myself look wistfully at these wide, somewhat baggy trousers.

And the classic pumps in mind-boggling shades are simply divine.

For me, it was Proenza Schouler who first brought life back to NYFW (although I do expect disagreement on this).

[I know, this review is about a day late. My apologies! Chinese New Year mania has been overwhelming, although of course, that is no excuse :)]
