Karl Lagerfeld: The German Workaholic

When Stephie introduced Signe Chanel to me a couple of months back, I was enthralled! I think it is the first documentary I’d watched that is truly about (high) fashion.

Then I found Karl Lagerfeld is Never Happy Anyway (via Fashion Verbatim), a documentary of the man himself, as opposed to the collection in Signe Chanel.

It’s fascinating!

In this one, Lagerfeld is speaking in German (his mothertongue) instead of French (his adopted tongue). It is refreshing to hear German comes out of his mouth - plus it is good for me to practice German with *laugh*

Languages aside, the documentary delves into the man behind the brand. Although Lagerfeld said himself that he wears a mask every day, the snippets of his personality that seeps through is quite enough for an hour long viewing.

You’ll get a fair glimpse into who Karl Lagerfeld is and what he thinks of various random subjects. I find his thoughts and ideas to be most amusing. In particular, I find his almost flippant attitude towards fashion and his own success in the industry unexpected and strangely charming.

There’s gossip too - Karl not so subtly hints at his feud with YSL. Juicy :)

Here’s the first part of the documentary:

You can find the other five parts on YouTube :)

Happy viewing,
Dottie
