Singapore Fashion Festival 2008 Press Conference

Stephie and I were thrilled when we received an invitation to RSVP for the Singapore Fashion Festival 2008 Press Conference. Unfortunately, as Stephie was unable to make it, I had to attend the event by myself. The prospect was pretty intimidating, but everything turned out fine :)

The press conference was held at the Victoria Theatre. Personally, I think it is a wonderful choice of venue - the 150 year old colonial building not only has a lovely facade, but its interiors also exude an old school charm.

The theme for this year’s Singapore Fashion Festival is ‘Legends & Rising Stars’, giving us a clue as to what to expect at the shows next month.

The line up is a mix of the old and the new, both in terms of the designers and the models.

For the designers ‘legends’, we’ll be seeing the likes of India’s fashion pioneer Ritu Kumar and our very own iconic designers, Tan Yoong and Thomas Wee. As for the up-and-comers, there’s Qiu Hao from China, who will be making his Singapore debut at the SFF.

As for the faces of the runway, there is Erin O’Connor (”one of the best models in the world” - Karl Lagerfeld). Fast-rising stars Chinese models such as Lili Shen, Kiki and Zhang Xu Chao will also be making appearances.

After a short introduction, we were treated to a sneak peek into the collections that will be showing.

The dress by Tan Yoong in the last photo is adorable - something a fairy princess will wear I assume :) I also really like the model wearing the dress. I’d noticed her at Singapore Fashion Week (she was one of the few oriental faces) last year, and I think she was recently in a TV ad. Does anyone know who she is?

We were invited up the stage to more closely examine the clothes - and for some bites and bubbly (at 11 in the morning!). Perfect way to start the day I will say :)

We can’t wait for next month to roll around. The spectacular catwalk theatre built for the SFF should be reason enough to pop down for a look - the Tent@Orchard is bigger (accommodating up to 1000 guests) with a specially designed 60 foot catwalk, and featuring a 8-metres LED screen. It all sounds glorious!

The SFF is open to the public, and this year there will be even more tickets made available for this purpose. If I am not wrong, you can RSVP your tickets for the shows online. We do not have the details yet, but once we do, you can be sure that you’ll the first to know, so watch this space :)

See you at the shows!
Dottie
