Yesterday, while mingling with the fashion insiders, it was communicated to us that Tan Yoong’s show was absolutely not to be missed. Well, but of course, we retorted! No one else does old school glamour like Tan Yoong, and both Dottie and I were very curious to see his collection for ourselves.
Entitled ‘Dazzling Rhapsody’, the name of the collection was certainly apt! With jewelry from Lee Hwa, it was expected that we would see more diamonds than Chanel bags in the Tent.

Entering the venue, Dottie and I were treated to half-naked men parading in diamond necklaces. ‘The indulgence! The luxury!’, I thought, until a fashion editor I befriended (always fun to speak to your neighbouring fashionista!) pointed out that they were probably bored standing either on the runway at the beginning of the show, or amongst the guests during the show. Not to mention cold (refer to nipples)!
Well, apart from light-hearted jokes about hot men – I noticed that while Greek gods decked out in jewelry are splashed all over the magazine spreads, seeing them up close in person really did show a balance between masculinity and femininity.

The ads end, the show starts and out pops a violinist – it’s unexpected and attention grabbing. At this point, I’m elated to have such a great light and angle to take pictures for FN.

Everything is classy and elegant, until the following dress appeared. It may not reflect 100% in my photos, but the way the fabric floated can only be described as stunning:

It just kept getting better, and I couldn’t help thinking that the reason why these dresses look so appealing is because everyone in the audience can imagine themselves in one of these. It isn’t just because it looks aesthetically pleasing, it’s because subconsciously we recognise that these dresses are wearable as well. And frankly, isn’t that just what ready-to-wear is all about? Even if it is not, I’m quite ready to wear these!

Lastly, the truly orgasmic dresses appeared like a dream:

Now, tell me – isn’t the four dresses above so lovely they are only fit for a monarch?
The show was stellar – great lighting, good pace, none of that striding up and down like you’re walking in the CBD. Plus Junita Simon’s (model in the last picture) presence on the runway just kept me in awe…

100% enamoured with Tan Yoong & Junita Simon

My first impression of the dresses is that they are made for fairy tales creatures! Like queen of the wood nymphs or the Snow Queen
And there’s even a very chic take on the Little Red Riding Hood!

Hi jo – look on the bright side! at least you get access into shows, which really is great fun to go to. (:
Ruth – many thanks for the link! I saw his card in the goodiebag, I’m familiar with his wedding photography. But it would’ve definitely slipped my mind to check his site out if you didn’t point it out!
hi tram – spot on about the marketing bit!
