Marc & Elodie

Adrian C of Fashion Verbatim very aptly wondered if anyone has ever questioned Marc Jacobs’ godliness.

Well, he has to be a god of some kind. If anyone other than him sports a tattoo of a cartoon character, I will think they look completely daft. But Marc Jacobs with his Spongebob Squarepants tattoo - its quirky cool :D Of course, I’m displaying biased fangirl sentiments unabashedly, but I don’t really care in this case.

Recently, Jacobs co-stared in a shoot for NY Times with French actress Elodie Bouchez. It was a very clean, sparse, behind-the-scene kind of shoot, where there is minimal distraction from the characters and the clothes.

In various pictures, Marc is characteristically (as a designer) styling and helping Elodie with her outfit.

I’m thinking perhaps it is not that Marc Jacobs is a god. Maybe it is just good old charisma.

Two days ago, Stephie sent me a frantic SMS, brimming over with excitement, telling me that she’s just saw Marc Jacobs! I felt super thrilled for her, but a little forlorn I wasn’t there to share the moment. Surely seeing fashion’s current golden boy in Paris is a travel anecdote that is worth retelling many times over :)

  • My, I lvoe those pictures! & yes I think Marc Jacobs is a God too! & so lucky of her to have spotted him!!!

  • I really like the colour of his hair..

  • Hi Guys :)

I see that we’re all Marc fans. And yes, super lucky of Stehie to have spotted him!

  • I’ve never deitified Marc Jacobs because, well, I’ve never seen him in that ‘godly’ light. Why I love him and what he does is totally opposite to that - friendliness and accessibility.
I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting him but I think if I did, and if he had the time, we would have a good old chat about our favourite bands, movies, books, comics, artists, designers, tattoos and yes, even ‘unmentionables’, for these popular culture-related things are what I think make his designs so accessible, not monetarily, but in terms of wearability. His acute ability to tap into the Zeitgeist and to know what we want to wear before we even have an inkling might seem ‘godlike’ but I see him as a gay best friend who’s always way ahead of his time, super in-tune with what’s going on around him and translates all of that into pretty pieces for all his girlfriends around the world to wear.

Marc Jacobs is most definitely NOT a “God”. Yeah, he’s a good designer, or was a good designer. I think people put him on this pedestal, to which he most certainly does not belong. He keeps doing all this crap to be this “kooky”, “crazy”, or “progressive” designer, instead of keeping the focus on where it should be: the clothes. I liked his designs better when he was fat. Now his ego is through the roof, and he’s lost his what I feel his true passion was. Now he just cares about being famous.

Fashion is fashion people. I like it just as much as you do, but to compare it to Gods? Thats a little ridic. I know it may have been a joke, but in all reality, I used to be wrapped up in this fashion sh** just as much as you guys. Then, I got my head out of the clouds, and realized what a farce the fashion industry is. Now, I don’t read ANY fashion mags anymore because all they do is feed into negative stereotypes of how you “should” look, and “should” dress; when all of it is decided by ONE woman? C’mon. I just stick to the thread on fashionnation, and my imagination, shop at thrift stores, and the occasional boutique.

  • [...] Jump to Comments It is uncanny that so shortly after I’d posted about the ultra laid back photoshoot March Jacobs did with Elodie Bouchez, the over-the-top shoot he did for Interview magazine should [...]
