The economists and generally unhappy people of the world will have us believe that there is no such thing as a free lunch. The concept got so big, we all can chant it in our various mother tongues and there’s even a Wikipedia page dedicated to it.
Here on Fashion Nation, we don’t believe that at all! Not when there are loads of goodies around, especially in fashion. Excluding those lovely tote bags, perfume samples and makeup pouches we get from buying fashion magazines – these are technically not free anyway, you have the entire universe of free fashion or indie magazines.
Gosh, these are so good for shopaholics! Are you in the same situation as me? I’ll bet you are – either you’ve just splurged on your Spring purchases – Miu Miu shoes, crazy whirl-wind vacations, saving up for the Great Singapore Sale (Swirl has one on today!), or simply scrimping for your 2.55, you belong in the same Venn diagram as me – the one labelled BROKE.
You’ll be happier to read Fashion Nation now that 50% of the nation’s population is doing some serious scrimping. First we tell you about free martinis (that is if you don’t mind live R&B music…), now we’ll let you in the bag for some serious free print action.
I came across Vice Magazine in London, it was impossible to miss. On the floor near the door at every fashion store, I had to double check and ask the assistant if it was really free because it was so thick, glossy and gorgeous looking!
I love how the magazine is thematic – the articles are super sweet, chockful of good content. The writers don’t care if they are in your face, they’ll just write it anyway. The issue I got was the History issue, which has articles centred around history in so many different approaches, I was sold immediately. There was an article on the museum in China and how they stored baby foetus specimens in a forbidden area (seriously unbearable to read), and the photographer barged in to get some undercover photos.
They also covered the Cold War, history of fashion, interviews with rock stars, and the like. I like how magazines can cover fashion, be edgy, and yet not fluffy or irritatingly promotional.
Also very amazed that the advertisements in Vice was really good, which explains the sustainability of the magazine.

Have included random shots from their current photoshoot. I like that it doesn’t look too staged and the girls seem to have loads of fun while taking the photos.
Good news for other broke girls out there, you’ll be able to read the past issues here, and the current issue is also available! I hope you like it too.
Smittened with Vice

YEAH I love all those goodies, especially because the tote bags are always so cute! I really like the 2nd last outfit! It’s an outfit which is simple but yet I don’t think I’ll be able to pull it off so well like that girl!!
Btw, thanks for telling us about that awesome magazine
