I have been feeding my soul with music by Faye Wong.
In Singapore, I often find that Asian musicians are not held in the same regard as Western musicians. There is a bigger global market and more appreciation for music from USA and Europe, so Asian artistes seldom break through international markets.
However, Faye Wong is one of the rare few who has succeeded. Other than being an amazing singer, her work is haunting enough to be appreciated by all audiences. While I find her music boring when I was younger, with age and more experience I now find her work amazingly therapeutic. She is the Madonna of the Mandarin music scene, and rightly so, from a fashion perspective.

Always a trend setter, the styling of the above may not be out of the world as we revisit her dramatic looks, but I remember it was a breakthrough ten years ago. Somehow, her style may be over the top, but it still looks very relevant to me. Other than sticking a shoe on the top of her head with a feathered heel (wtf!), her crazy eye makeup is one of her trademark looks.

The problem with featuring the style of Asian celebrities, is that I can hardly find personal style shots. They are often styled to death on magazine spreads, but I find that Faye’s featured looks in magazines are greatly representative of her own personal style. Always comfortable and fashionable to a zenith, I am just glad to seek solace in both her fashion, and her music, in the twilight hours of this week day.

Hi Fayenatic – very happy to write about Faye as well. Sometimes I think fashion is all about the new new new… but we must remember these style icons who brought us joy (and shock) with their style. (:

I definitely agree with you for “While I find her music boring when I was younger, with age and more experience I now find her work amazingly therapeutic.”
She proves that Cantonese Pop is not hopeless.. Others just can’t sing. What’s the point to listen to pop if vocalist can’t sing? why shouldn’t i just listen to instrumental then?
Faye Wong has the most beautiful voice in this planet…
A good vocalist who can respond to music and so vice versa.
