I’m really an old lady at heart. I veer towards gold accessories as opposed to cool silver hardware, but I’m revisiting images of Givenchy and I am feeling the inspiration!
I know those dratted magazines preach and tell us that we should all dress to accentuate our body shape and facial features (blah blah blah), but everyone will have that moment where you wish you look totally different. I’m not saying its better for skinny people to suddenly try their darnest to grow boobs, or for short people to go to the freak doctors to lengthen their legs.
However, I know we all have our secret alter-ego characters, because I’ve always heard people saying ‘Oh I wish I could wear that! I’d never have dared to walk out of the house!’
Well, let’s share our fashion secrets, the PostSecret way in this post’s comments!
My secret fashion wish is to be a cool cat! While the Stephie living in reality buy dresses in bulk and hunts down the best-looking shoes, I’m always keeping an eye out for images which can channel the “cool cat” Stephie – black, body conscious silhouettes, centre-parted bed hair, combat boots, tonnes of eyeliner and loads of tattoos. There will be minimal blasts of color, everything will be kept to mutes and fierce metals. I’ll be walking around like a real live vampire/witch.
I’ll shop and be clad in Junya, Ann Demeulemeester, and Martin Margiela.
I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about how if you could start over, what would your style be? Would it still be exactly what you own now, or would you start afresh?
My answer to the above question is that it would be entirely similar to what I own now, but perhaps its time for me to create an alter-ego! Not that I need more reasons to shop, but imagine, an entirely new wardrobe fit for someone else!
Definitely worth a ponder (:
Stephie

Gosh…what a loaded question… haven’t really ASPIRED to be something else really…which sounds quite arrogant but I guess my style changes so much, there’s not really anything that I haven’t explored to some degree or another…hmm…will get back to you about that one…

hey susie – well, I’d more or less expected that answer from you, but I think that you’ve sort of meshed up all sorts of styles and made that all into your own!
I guess this started from the fashion diary post you did on Sara Arnold, and how part of her fashion thought process is formed by her many alter egos, and I thought, my most distinct alter-ego has to be the cool cat!

It’s really strange but my fashion wish is the same as yours. I want to be grungy, black, white, grey with tattoos and smudgy eyeliner. But I want to wear super tall and chunky heels ALL THE TIME. I also want to be really thin. Like impossibly thin but naturally. You know those long lean girls with slim arms and legs that have tiny little hips? That what I want to look like. Secrectly! I don’t mind being curvy and athletic but my fantasy body is something like a praying mantis… good question!

Tall and lean! And to have that impossibly cool demeanour which I could pull off anything with. Hot pink high-waisted shorts? Sure. Sky-high heels with spikes and chains? You betcha! I could wear anything and give off the air of not giving a damn.

mine would have to be the carelessly-thrown together chic look. somehow i always veer towards the put together and neat look cos i think it suits me best. but i would love to look don’t-give-a-crap-effortlessly-messy and look GOOD being messy!

I would love it to wear skinny jeans and layers. Hmm I guess my description would be like lf’s comment “don’t-give-a-crap-effortlessly-messy” but somehow come out cool looking.
But I am exploring styles, so maybe someday I will come up with something that would work for me.

GREAT question…
I think I’d go for more quality instead of quantity
Also I’d try to master the art of the basic hues, instead of constantly satiating my attraction to bold colors and prints…

It seems like we all have the same cool hopes… However I think the ‘cool’ look is super hard to master!

[...] was the probing question that was asked over at Fashion Nation this morning. To answer Stephie’s question… I want to look like this girl [...]

Now I’m nolonger a gauche young thing, I would recommend experimenting more and not confining yourself but then equally only wear what you love and is an expression of you.
I love playing out new looks and tend to be more concern about looking silly than I should be so my new alter ego is ‘don’t care lady’.

My alter ego is effortlessly cool… of course, she’s naturally tall and slim with legs that go on forever and short cropped hair that I would never be able to pull off in real life. She looks good in anything but favours skinny jeans and a simple t-shirt with lashings of dark smouldering eye make-up…she’s a bit of a tomboy but when she gets dressed up to go out she’s totally hot. She simply throws on a short bodycon dress and a pair of high high heels to accentuate those ridiculously long legs…she’s not one for accessories or frills…she just adds a dash of lipstick grabs her clutch bag and off she goes.
Wow, great question, something I’d never thought of before. Its interesting that almost all of us have said something quiet similar. We all want to be in the cool gang! For me my alter ego is all the things I admire but will never ever be…long legs…cropped hair…a simple effortless dresser!

Oooh, I wish I could be so much edgier! I want cheekbones that could cut glass and definitely less chest!

Mm, I’m curvy, tall enough and have good skin and a nice smile. But, I’d really like to be Twiggy! Thin and making the most of it! With those impossibly huge eyes, wearing Chanel mini dresses and looking amazing in almost anything!
I find it hard to carry off 1920s styles and I would love to be able to do so, or do an androgynous Katherine Hepburn look as well.
Oh, and I’d like to be a redhead too, at some points, with that translucent, freckly-skin, and luminous green eyes. Heehee.

Hah, what a great question!
I suppose my regular persona aspires to look something like Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, but it depends on what mood I’m in. I would love to be a French bombshell a la Bridgette Bardot, only taller and tanner with longer legs. I wish I had broad shoulders and a bit more of a chest. I would wear the sort of clothes that only the real fashion savvy could pull off. I would have a razor sharp edge and mega sex appeal.

I also love that “Twiggy” sort of look. Basically, I would want to look very “fresh”, young, sort of babyfaced, very thin, but naturally, doe-eyed, etc. (I’m already young and fresh and all that, and pretty thin, but not THAT thin, if you know what I mean.) Baby doll-like.
She could basically pull off any look, while still looking very unique/distinct. I love how her small face emphasizes her big eyes even more. Wish I had that so my eyes would pop! Of course, if I looked like that, I would want to be hanging out with all the freaks and the weirdos instead of the cool crowd.
Hehe….

i would totally do the whole cool cat thing. I loved the Givenchy collection with the layered jewellry and the pallette of black. I want to look dark and mysterious cos it would totally contrast my personality i think.
But at the moment i’m trying to mould my personality into a more edgy, dark and mysterious setting, so who knows..

Hmmm, I wouldn’t mind a Marni inspired wardrobe/look. I do love a bit of luxe hippy! I’d keep pieces of my existing wardrobe, but definatly shop for most of it! Must work on all that…….. x
