Night at the Museum

All hail the weekend (: The writers of this blog have decided to participate in the National Museum’s festive activities, so we went to the Night Festival in search of a good time.

Originally a freaky, quiet colonial building in the night, the good people behind the Museum put on their thinking caps and decided to give it a good dressing up. We’re not sure if they were following the Spring/Summer 2008 trends, but it certainly looks fab:

They applied the same theme to their interior, hence we have quite a different Michelangelo’s David greeting us as we enter the museum. I have to say, he looks really good in magenta florals…

Of course, being an adult is absolutely no excuse for wasting a golden opportunity to play with shadows, so off we went to get a bit of fun!

But really, the whole pont of this post is to show you what we wore tonight. For some strange reason we were both in shades of coral, but it was rather unintentional. Apart from the color coordination bit, it was one of those days where our styles were not that similar as you will see:

Dottie’s all dressed for the art gallery look with her French Connection dress and Marni knockoffs from Charles & Keith. Fierce shoes! <3!

And as per my normal practice, it is the weekend and I go all out to look like a lunatic. Vintage bag, H&M belt, leather boots from Calypso, Berlin.

I bought lace gloves some time back, and every single time I wear the pair out in town I get “You’re crazy” looks from just about everyone. Okay, I get it – I compromise and wear only one glove. I got the same stares again! Next weekend, no more compromise! it’s back to the pair, I tell you!

I’m also very happy with my tiered skirt. I feel happy when I put it on, and it looks great when I play the shadow game with the Girls. Weekend outfits should make you feel happy when you’re playing, no?

Close-up of accessories – assorted bracelets and my steal from the Topshop sale. Random chain necklace to channel the cool cat in me for less than $15.

It’s me + lace gloves against the world!

  • oh this looks so good. I love museum trips at night, there is an annual event in my town with night visits for particular museums. It’s pretty much fun. And you girls look so pretty! I love your dress, Dottie.

  • You girls are great!!!! =))
Just curious, how did both of you come up with this decision to make this blog?

  • definitely wear those gloves as a pair, the only reason why people give you “you’re crazy” looks is because they don’t understand why you would wear that in the heat, but who cares right? I’m coming back to Singapore in September, so there will be one more inappropriately dressed singaporean in town, so for the sake of people like you and me, wear it with pride!

  • Those pictures of the museum are amazing! And of course your outfits are fantastic as always. Coral is such a beautiful colour, should be worn more often I think!

  • oh i just love that museum and its architecture. which day did u girls hit it up?! i was there on friday night :D

  • Stephie, don’t stop wearing the gloves!!! (And I know you won’t, tee-hee!) I think they look so cool on you, whether you’re wearing them in one hand or as a pair. Also, I love how you put your outfit together, ruffly skirt, boots and all!

    Wish I’d been there…

  • Hi Fruchtzwerg (: Museums are fab and last night was really crowded, seems like Singaporeans were all soaking up the mood as well!

shi min – well we talk about it before starting Fashion Nation, so one day we decided we might as well write and share with everyone.

Hey curellasays! OH so that was why I was getting the loony looks… hmm but whether one or both gloves they are really funky additions to any outfit (: Also a good way to show your crazy side to the world. Will be glad to see you posting about Singapore!

Hi Corrina! It was a coincidence but yes, coral’s really great to explore!

Hello Carlos! We were there on Saturday night!

hi claire – You’re right! Not going to stop soon… I think you can check out the museum site to see if they have more events, it’s a pity to miss it.

  • The museum looks absolutely beautiful, what a spectacle! I have to say though my favourite images are your shadow fun, lush silhouettes (and it goes without saying that you both wore cute outfits for the occasion). Cx

  • I went for both nights:)

I love that FC dress! it matches ur shoes.

  • The museum looks incredible!

  • keep wearing the lace gloves! they look good.

  • helo would you be willing to share where you got your gloves from? thanks :)

  • hi chew – got them from the sock department of Takashimaya… I think it’s level 3, in the department store.
