It is only fitting that the Bag Hag (Stephie) takes care of the accessories round-up for NYFW, while the Shoes Addict (yours truly) obsesses over the shoes.
Here are the shoes that caught my eyes. I may not have gotten all the interesting new footwear, so if I’d missed out anything, just drop a comment!
3.1 Philip Lim
I think it is love at first sight for me with these rosette platform pumps. If I can only buy one pair of shoes from NY S/S09, these will be it.

I can’t say the same for these suede tasseled peep-toes booties, although I’m sure there’ll be some of you who are wild for them. They are just a little too hairy-ish for my liking.

Marc Jacobs
The last few seasons have thrown up ultra-fierce shoes which are more femme fatale than feminine. These shoes are usually anchored with chunkier heels, which I personally prefer to thin, spindly ones. This season, Marc Jacobs took a complete turn-around, and gave us shoes with oblong, teardrop-shaped heels!

These are among the most curious shoes I’d ever seen – they’re espadrilles hybrids of some sort, but I can’t decide what! Anyway, I think the ribbons that go all the way up the legs will not be kind to us non-model, mere mortal type.

Marc by Marc Jacobs
As if to balance out the near-impossible shoes he’d churned out for his signature line, shoes walking down the Marc by Marc Jacobs runway are mostly flats or only very slightly elevated by architectural, wooden heels.

On the other hand, like their Marc Jacobs counterparts, these shoes are also hybrids, interestingly both reminiscent of high-top sneakers and the modest classic pumps.
Michael Kors
After watching so many episodes of Project Runway, I feel like I know Michael Kors (as a person, not as a designer) better than most designers! His collection always have a quintessentially American vibe, which is clean and fresh.
For S/S09, platform heels and wedges dominated his collection footwear-wise. He’d cleverly hacked out chunks from his wedge heels, making them look a whole lot more crazy and twice as covetable.

I like the last pair of red strappies the most – its simple but chic. And they look reasonably comfortable! Very good platform-heel ratio
Proenza Schouler
The guys from Proenza Schouler jumped right onto the impossible shoes wagon and gave us shoes which are structuraly wedges, only without the study, reassuringly chunky block heel. Instead, the arches are supported by triangular metal frames.

The conical heel is also given a face lift with corkscrew detailing.

Narciso Rodriguez
For the booties lovers among us, who do not care much for trends-spotting, Narciso Rodriguez has provided a lovely compromise with their peeptoes booties, embellished with zippers and studded strapes. Classic shape, but very now as well.

And this pair in python is really starting to grow on me.

Rodarte
A round-up of the most dramatic and eye-catching shoes this season will be incomplete without a mention of Rodarte’s chained platforms.

If you think that the chains look as though they’ll cut your feet into bloody pieces, these are much more harmless looking, sans murderous chains. I love the subtle ‘wing’ detail on the platform.

Or what about just one chain?

To end off, here’s some of the key shoes trends I’d observed for NYFW:
- Thick straps. Horizontal (rather than criss-crossing) bands across the feet appear to be quite a prevalent feature.
- Platform heels are still hot, but wedge heel is the choice of poison for many collection this season.
- Designers continues to focus on the heel as shoes looks increasingly like architectural works of art.
- Shoes are being laced up, not in the traditional oxford sense, but in sandals or sneaker-like forms.
- Cut-outs and peeptoes details are everywhere. Ironically, it appears that the designers are feeling that their shoes are not complete without some holes in them!
If there’s anything you’d observed but I’d not noted down here, drop us a comment! We’ll love to know what we’d miss out, considering how we didn’t have time to flip through every single look.
Working herself up into heightened shoes lust,
Dottie

these are all fabulous, but i’m partial to the narciso rodriquez collection. they’re all inherently chic and classic, but with a nice edge.

I think your pick of the season is the best of the bunch – those rosette platforms are glorious. And a fabulous shade, too.
