Have you ever been photographed by someone who loves you? I think that is the best way to be photographed, even if your other half happens to be the shittiest photographer in the world.
The new issue of W Magazine plays this amazing phenomenon to the hilt. The W team must possess superior persuasion skills – they got Brad Pitt to shoot Angelina Jolie, while the couple lead their private lives away from the public eye. To be fair, the photographs look really, really amazing (:

Instead of looking like the usual Amazonian, Jolie actually looks like a human being! A human being in love, that is – silly faces and lips in a fuller pout than usual.
Then again, if Brad Pitt is standing opposite me waiting to shoot me with a camera, I will emit a powerful aura of LOVE in every photograph too.

I love how relaxed she looks when she is with her kids – I’m so used to seeing her with a machine gun, I forgot that she can have a Mummy’s glow too.
Speaking of Moms – you have to head on over to Karen Cheng’s blog – she’s pregnant with her third baby! Congrats to the lovely couple, whom Dottie and I have had the pleasure to meet.
Since this is a Jolie post, and the entire world can be divided into two camps – Camp Aniston and Camp Jolie. Which one are you in?
Oh, I’d almost forgot. This will hint that we are quite ancient, but you may also opt to be in Camp Paltrow too. (Yes I know, I can’t believe I still remember that.)

At the start, Team Aniston (because of FRIENDS).
But after a while, Jolie seems like such a wonderful person. I’m on the fence.
P.S. love the photo of her with Maddox.

Hi yilin – On the fence sounds like a good place to be at… I HATED Gwyneth Paltrow when they were together. Typical teenage hatred for the girlfriends (; I don’t watch Friends, so I thought Aniston was kinda bland.
On restrospect, Gwyneth + Brad was really quite cool… but Jolie + Brad = Volcanic Hotness.

photos look nice but i must be the only one who thinks that they’re really just…nice. aethestically, i don’t see what’s the big deal about them. they don’t surprise me and if i’m using nifty equipment and roles of expensive film, the few that are picked for publication better look good! ok so brad pitt shot them, shrug

^h – I had that same thought too! I don’t quite know photography, and I think it helps that she is stunning already.
perhaps the mood was good, the subject looks good… it’s tough not to get a good shot?
I thought the film and the shipping and all that jazz about trying to bring it to him was way over the top.
But he is Brad Pitt after all – I guess good looks means you can get away with anything.

Team Aniston actually. I was devastated when they broke up! It was like, I had no faith for celebrity couples anymore
& I hated the cheating part. But well. Who knows?! Tabloids make up so many stories we hardly know which is true. But to me Aniston + Pitt was THE couple

team aniston too, now and forever. I do respect Angelina as actress and brad as actor but nevertheless I cannot stand cheaters. you can fall in love for someone else if you are not loving your other half anymore, that is sad but fine as long as you have the guts to break up with your former partner in the first place before you start an affair. make a clear cut and lie to us that you fall for someone after the breakup. I not too dreamy to think that every relationship or marriage will last forever but there are ups and downs and you should get time to clear things, if it still does not work out, make a clear statement. and what about the angelic words like “i would never be the third party of a relationship because my mom felt the pain of being cheated before”. sorry for being so emotionally but everybody seems to think that how wonderful angelina and brad are together and meant to be together but I like it how it all happened, the way they made it.
about the pics: they are nice but not outstanding at all like h mentioned it before.

you make such a great point…i’m so much more relaxed when my boyfriend’s behind the camera!

team jolie all the way!!!
))
i swoon whenever i read about them
they are like the fairytale that came true and hopefully, this is an everlasting one with happy ending
it’s tinseltown afterall!

camp jolie! no doubt i hated the cheating and divorce of pitt and aniston (i thought they were THE golden couple too) and thought pitt and jolie wouldn’t last (because most of these movie-romances don’t) but it really has, and i have to say that pitt-jolie look better together than pitt-aniston.
and i love how she’s so vulnerable in front of the camera with brad instead of how guarded she always looks in the media.
October 24, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Camp Jolie for life. The pictures are nice, but I don’t think she’s portrayed harshly by the media or anything. I’ve seen other charming and “real” pictures of her. As far as celebrities go I tend to like her as much as I can without actually knowing her. I like that last picture of her and her son, that one is awesome….
October 24, 2008 at 1:27 pm
yeaaa. pitt and aniston were the golden couple way back then. hahaa. school jock meets cheerleader, prom king and prom queen.
whereas pitt-jolie is the rarity where the jock gets together with the artsy-goth-misfit individualist chick. which is always interesting when conventional stereotypes are broken

Brad & Jen were like totally sunshine and waves and grins.
Brad and Angie are like sex and lava.
I kinda like both… heh.

camp jo!
i have to go pick up that W… i definitely almost forgot and you gave me a reminder!
i love grainy black and whites…

Totally Team Jolie!
I believe that the camera captures the emotions as well as the physical… the good feelings, the bad. It’s just so hard not to feel the love in these photos. I remember the feelings of relaxation and contentment that take over when you’re breastfeeding your child, and that’s what I see in Angelina’s.
Brad and Angelina are two people who are at the same phase in their lives… the kids & family phase… where as Jennifer was completely in career mode. It’s just sad when someone has to get hurt. I still believe there was no cheating — Angelina’s father cheated on her mother so she wouldn’t want to be a part of that scenario… Just like I’d never read my daughter’s diary because I remember how terrible I felt when my mother read mine.

i go for team jolie…
while watching mr. and mrs.smith there’s this attraction between them that you wouldn’t see in any other movies…
and i heard that jennifer don’t want to get pregnant by that time when she were with brad…
is that true?
October 25, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Team Jolie.
Brad actually looks happier with her. But who knows, another Hollywood leading lady might come along and mess them up. Sigh, matrimony in Hollyood is a short-lived thing.

The photos are beautiful so much that it doesn’t matter who shot them, because the true beauty are the natural beauty of the subjects. It goes to show that family is the most important thing. (And fyi, hate to say this, but I’ve met Jennifer Aniston when I was a publicity assistant … not the nicest person
October 27, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I hate to be a sourpuss for pointing this out, but… is that a cig in her hand in the one with Maddox?
October 27, 2008 at 5:21 pm
haha nora- it could be a pencil for all you know.
anyway, i think this post rings very true for photographers- cos you know what you love about your subject.
think about the photographer in love stories we’ve heard in contemporary culture, and how they got the subjects famous: mark ‘the cobra snake’ hunter & cory kennedy. rumi (from fashiontoast) & colin. mario sorrenti & kate moss.
im on team aniston, but i think the sandwich shot is so endearing because we’re so used to seeing a plastic barbie-perfect jolie, and the emotion in that is so ..uncensored . haha
October 27, 2008 at 10:33 pm
^ hi everyone (: Team Jolie seems to have more members! I’ve also read about the fact that Aniston isn’t such a fun character to be with.
hi nora – seems like they are having drawing classes!
hi the smurtorialist – the sandwich shot is my favourite as well, very unexpected.

I love that nursing photo – it’s so natural…and definitely did not deserve all that controversy.
