Store Review: Sweet As Caramel

We like the idea of our fellow Singaporeans getting their hands into the business of fashion. We like it even more when they actually design and make their own clothes, instead of sourcing from overseas That way, its really local, through and through. And we all know every little bit helps to put our little red dot on the (very exclusive) fashion map!

So when the people behind Caramel dropped us an email about their freshly launched concept brand and boutique, we were immediately interested in checking them out.

The brains behind the label are designers Mel Chen and Fernn Ho. While they have different design aesthetics and sources of inspirations, the resulting collaboration appears to be complimentary. Mel’s whimsical touch and Fernn’s subtle designs creates a harmonious balance.

Caramel offers off-the-rack cocktail dresses for looking fabulous at the endless parties we should all be attending. But what sets this new-comer apart is its make-to-measure services, where the designers churn out one-of-a-kind dresses that fits you to a T. For ultra-special occasions where you cannot be caught dead in the same dress as another girl,this will come in very useful.

For the brides-to-be, this is great news too. Caramel has valuable experience in fitting brides for their tea ceremonies. It may also be a great place to hunt for brides-maids dresses (your friends will be so grateful) or flower-girls’ frocks for your adorable nieces.

While we have not been down personally ourselves, the photos we’d received of the store space got us really excited – its so pretty! More importantly, it looks like the perfect place to be trying on beautiful dresses, and then prancing around in them. Through our correspondence with the lovely Tam, we were assured that service at Caramel is utterly personalized, so do expect a warm, friendly reception.

Whether you’re looking for a sweet cocktail number (look at those bows!) or going for the sexy seductress look, it looks like Caramel has it all covered.
