URGH

Okay so people have been posting up one liners and write-ups on this Spring 2009 Louis Vuitton ad campaign, but it can be summarised into one category aptly entitled ‘WTF‘.

Come on LV! I’ve been a long-time fan of your monogram to the point of being pretty sick of defending it, but you’re pushing my tolerance level way too much if you put it on red lace covering Madonna’s fish-net lined crotch.

I’m just happy to stick to my monogram canvas and damier, thank you very much.

P.S. That hideous metallic creation shouldn’t see the light of day! And who would buy that underwear anyway?!

  • Why would they think that madonna’s crotch would make me want to buy that bag?

  • These ads are so disguisting, words can’t describe it. Marc Jacobs must lost his mind when he decided to use Madonna as model for Louis Vuitton. Awful ads.

  • I’m not a fan of Madonna too! ^5…

Aurelia – maybe they are trying to sell the lace undies (:

  • Madonna for LV just doesn’t go that well – but Marc Jacobs is known for pushing it. pushing it to where, i don’t know but it will be hilarious if the bag doesn’t sell.
anyhows, have you read the book Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster by Dana Thomas? A good section talked about the rise of LV as couture house and transformation to LV today. its a good read. i finished the book in 2 days.

  • that pose is just awfully awkward. there MUST have been better shots to choose from than this…

  • actually, I like the undies & bag!

i guess it just depends the way of u viewing it!

and i guess they just wana try out diff way of shooting it~

  • I am SO tired of seeing Madonna’s crotch. It’s so disgusting and repulsive to me. I actually like the bag but it’s really putting a bad taste having Madonna model it. She is NOT high fashion.

  • LV is not that much high fashion than cash rich
when’s the last time an LV haute couture collection caught anyone’s attention?

  • well if the bag/undies/wtf sells, then it is money well spent…

yet the campaign will still remain a model ‘WTF’ in the eyes of most.

  • ahaha I totally agree with you! finallyyyy somebody has the guts to say it..

the whole ad is about how Madonna can bend her leg behind her head, but we get it! she does yoga! ENOUGh of herrr she’s getting old…

  • Am surprised that no one sees this as some sorta “American rhapsody”.
The Madonna and Vuitton pairing is genius and appropriate because The Jacobs and Vuitton legacy has reached such a revered superstar/celebrity status that only an equally decadent other such as Madonna is befitting of it’s campaign… as least one in Jacobs’ vision that is.
I agree that Jacobs can serve up s**t and fashion critics will still lap it up. But such is the reality of fashion these days.
This season’s collection is not complete crap but perhaps a slightly watered down theme of Jacobs’ namesake line… but at least he knew which elements to include for whichever collection, and therefore satisfy the needs of each collection’s target market/ consumer.
And maybe that is Jacobs’ spot-on talent or say, purely a lucky strike?
Then again, it’s also fair to conclude that if say, Antonio Marras were to send out the exact same LV collection but under the label he designs for – Kenzo – it just would NOT be as equally lauded. And fashion insiders will know why.
In short, I suppose as unfair as it may seem, Jacobs can do no wrong, well at least not in the eyes of the many the fashion cognoscenti.
And that of course also explains how strange fashion has become, that is: It’s sometimes not all about the clothes but also about fame and notoriety in various aspects.
