+ Dottie and I are amazed at the quality of portfolio and work our readers have, judging from the fabulous response coming in daily in the Fashion Nation mailbox. If you have free-flowing creative juices and are looking to build up your portfolio, we want you!
+ Often in Singapore, you get depressed due to the time pattern of things. Endless days and nights of humid, unbearable weather, then a drizzle when the sky feels like it. Now and then there is a downpour which makes you really happy, but these are as elusive as gnomes in the Botanical Gardens.
It’s the same for sales. Mango sale, Zara sale… good but not orgasmic. The Charles & Keith sale now, though, going on in the Singapore Expo (it’s found inside the John Little Mega Sale near the foodcourt) is one such gnome-finding, orgasmic experience.
Pictorial evidence:

Hello shiny surface and exposed zips for SGD9

Hello three pairs of cute shoes for less than a normal pair of Charles & Keith! I got the centre pair at $16.90 and the other two at $9. The shoes are going mostly at SGD9 – 19.90.
It is morally wrong to say no to such a sale since we should stretch our dollar in any possible manner. Rush down now!
+ Dottie and I cannot get over this site, which is totally hilarious. It is a site featuring clips hosted by Anna, an ‘angmoh’ (read: colloquial term for Caucasian in Singapore) who has lived in China for close to a decade. She goes around exploring the Chinese culture, which can be quite puzzling if you aren’t Chinese.
Singaporeans as well as Chinese folks who live elsewhere will appreciate the duality of this site. The juxtaposition of cultures is shown by exploration of themes like the Chinese adopting English names, and how residents of Beijing go around finding love in the city.
On top of intriguing themes, Anna adds on a hilarious spoof of the Sex and the City trailer in the beginning, as well as random mirrors of scenes such as Carrie typing in PJs on her bed with her Apple laptop.
Check it out, anyhows!
Have a nice weekend!
Stephie

Holy crap. I mean I love zippers so there is no need to say that I have much love for the futuristic zipper heels. They are insane!

that is a christian louboutin rip off.
this is what i don’t understand. how come… charles and keith manage to be the SINGAPORE entrepeneur of the year.. when all C&K did was copy other designers design and sell it cheaply?
i agree some shoes of theirs are aesthethically pleasant looking. but when 90% of those in stores, of which I could name the designer he ripped them from, totally disgust me.
but the irony of it.. i am wearing his shoes. cos yes. it is affordable. but i chose the simplest looking one that doesnt scream designer copy cat.
i just hope they come up with something of their own you know. cos its our local brand. and instead of feeling proud.. i hv this brand branching out all over the world. which is so wrong. they have done nothing to make me proud.
le sigh..

Hey gor,
I do have to agree with you that Charles & Keith are not really churning out designs of their own… But their shoes are SO affordable, who wouldn’t wear them right? However, many brands do take designs off runway and market them at a lower price. Like Mango and Zara, they take designs from fashion runways, add their little touch and call it theirs.
Cheers,
Jeanette

Hi Guys
Jeannette, totally agree with you! The imported high street brands are the most blatant in taking designs off the runways, but they not only not get flak, but are generally applauded. Instead C&K is often in the negative limelight. It’s something I wonder about quite often. Is it the price range?

hey Dottie,
I’m not sure why though. I suppose because C & K is started by two local designers, and people expect fresh and original designs from them to boost Singapore’s name. However, since we all clearly know they don’t as their designs are such a close replica to those on the runway, they are booed for their minor efforts of reproducing. But I must admit, their price is something we cannot ignore because it’s so affordable even in our current recession. Given the price, their quality stands for itself, the shoes do not last long especially if you wear them pretty frequently. Compared to other brands like ALDO and GUESS, the price equates its quality. What do you think?
Jeanette. =)

I’m not a big fan of round toed shoes, but I do love the addition of the zip to the silver stilettos.
