Say ‘Hello!’ to Topshop’s new Spring/Summer 2009 collection, hot from the Fashion Nation mailbox!
Pastels and all things fresh and floral mixed with playful heels and shrunken blazers. Very British, if you may, and such a great break from the sombre RECESSION CHIC!
I may well break into a rant against ‘Recession chic’ and what it entails because I am very much in denial about the ongoing recession. There may be an economic crisis going but the shopping should not cease! (:

Ooh cute!

But Stephie, “recession chic” fashion need not be sombre! Don’t you realise that while you are thrifting and buying “pre-loved” threads you are already involved in the whole theory behind it?
I agree that recession or no recession, fashion-concious women like us cannot and will not abandon shopping – but “recession-chic”-ness means more focus on quality, less on cheap, disposable fashion (which doesn’t do the environment any favours, and don’t get me started on what that means for the poor workers working for 25cents a day in Cambodia!).
So I urge you to reconsider what being smart with what you buy in these times we are living in, and perhaps even go as far as to leave the excesses of 2008 behind.
C’mon, try it : )

Absolutely agree with Bella!
Topshop’s SS09 is fun & cheery but ‘recession chic’ (or being ‘chic’ for that matter) is not about buying cheap – it’s about buying value.
e.g. This season, perhaps some will try investing in 2 unique, well-made items which will last years and help create your own personal style, rather than amass 20 fast fashion pieces which end up chucked/languishing at the back of your closet after 6 months.

… I could agree with astrorainfall, however, I still have to worry about my own debt. I help out in small ways here and there, by buying this and that, but usually these are quite small purchases. All my free money usually goes to paying down my credit cards and school loans.
I do, however, covet those mary janes. It drives me insane how much I want them.
